GLCPP Collaboration: Germany, a (very) short history and cultural overview

We had a collaboration with GLCPP, and this is the information from our presentation.

First, we asked the members what they knew about Germany, and then we went into the presentation.

 

Important Dates in German History

  • 962: Formation of Holy Roman Empire (1st Reich)

  • 1525: Formation of the Kingdom of Prussia

  • 1806: Dissolution of Holy Roman Empire

  • 1848: Attempted Revolution

  • 1870: Franco-Prussian War

  • 1871: German Unification; Formation of the German Empire

  • 1919: Formation of the Weimar Republic

  • 1933: Hitler appointed Chancellor; beginning of Third Reich

  • 1945: End of WWII; Division of Germany

  • 1949: Formation of GDR & FRG

  • 1953: Strikes & Revolt in East Germany

  • 1989: Fall of the Berlin Wall

  • 1990: German Reunification
